I went to a spiritual retreat years ago where this idea was espoused. At the time I found it extremely triggering and rage inducing but now I am finding it to be true. The more I take responsibility for my own stuff and sort it out the more things seem to just fall into place. When I am having a lot of trouble I pray and I do get an answer. Sometimes I don't love the answer but I know that it is true somehow. The more peaceful I am on the inside the easier things seem to go on the outside. Even things that seem difficult on really good days I can just accept and there ends up being a lesson or a silver lining somewhere in there. More and more I am experiencing periods of peace of mind. I am sure there will still be many bumps in the road because that's life but one can learn how to cope in healthy ways and accept oneself warts and all.

Inner chaos can cause outer chaos ...

It can definitely create a climate that invites further chaos. I have found that if I am peaceful inside things that are outside don't seem to bother me much.
