Hi. I'm new here. I just joined this community because I was looking for a place to get help and support while I take on the road of recovery from BPD. I'm a 25 year old female and psychology student trying to work on a relationship and fix myself in order to have a happy life. I was diagnosed with BPD roughly about four years ago but it was a word-of-mouth kind of diagnosis, it wasn't completely legitimate, so I ignored it and even rejected it until recent months when it's become painfuly obvious that I do indeed have this condition and it has been the cause of most, if not all, of my problems in the relationship I have been in. Since I decided to look into it and accept the diagnosis I have looked for help but without much luck until recently when I found a psychiatrist who uses CBT and was willing to take my case, my health plan will even pay for it and my first appointment with him is this week. Until I start therapy and begin to work out my issues there I have been reading and educationg myself on the disorder and just thought I'd join a community where I could get some support in my journey. At the moment I am most interested in taking steps to start a recovery process and finding ways to cope with my strong emotions and ways of controlling them too (as well as the distorted thoughts) in order for me to be a better person and also to help, heal and better treat my partner.

Please tell me that things do get better and BPD's do recover from their symptoms.
Much thanx.

Welcome to BPDR!

Yes, I believe recovery is possible. It takes a lot of work and determination, not to mention introspection, but I know it can be done.

I think the best way for you to begin is to check out the tools section on your upper left screen. These tools have been a life-saver for me, literally. Especially check out the 10 forms of twisted thinking and how to untwist-- great foundation type of stuff.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi. This board can provide you with much help as everyone here is focused on recovery and learning to have a happy, healthy life. I hope you enjoy it here and gain as much from it as I have!

Welcome, welcome, welcome-- we're glad to have you here! :biggrin
