..newbie here, just making an attempt to introduce myself in a roundabout fashion as I am not much of a groupie; am deficient in communication skills; however, am about to try to mix a little more.
Diagnosis of BPD some years ago but just chalked it up to " they- don't- know-what- to-label-me " so ...
I seem to fit much of the stereotype. Am living in the boonies now & cannot afford therapy even if there was a therapist available. Did find a counsellor; however, am in a bit of quandry as to whether she has her own agenda ... then again, I am prone( is that minimizing ? ;) to "seeing" things differently from many people.
Was browsing the tools & yes... I can see where they could be very helpful.
Lots of work & effort has gone into this site. Great job ! Think I'll stick around some & try to keep an open mind.
Thanks.

Welcome aboard! Glad ya found us.

For whatever it's worth, I did the bulk of my own improving without a therapist so while they are and can be helpful, there's still a LOT of power in working on yourself directly. After all, the therapist doesn't do the recovery work for you!

Thanks for the warm welcome Ash. I, too believe therapists can be very helpful & at times even necessary but as you say I (we) have to do the work. Your comment that you did the bulk of your improving yourself is worth a great deal to myself & possibly to many others. It sure is a good motivating thought.
Much obliged..
Pan

:welcome

I agree with Ash. Although I needed therapy, in the times when I couldn't access it I still made a lot of progress through self-help stuff. A good, recovery-focused support network is priceless.

Looking forward to getting to know you. :)

Hi Lirael! Thanks for taking the time to welcome me. Appreciated. Have done quite a lot of work on myself using self-help books etc. Seems there is always more work to do < chuckling> Guess it is a lifelong process.
Right now am trying to work on detaching.. from someone who just won't be the way I want :) It's coming.. slowly. Am persistent.
Be well..... Pan

Oh, tell me about it! I'm definitely a work in progress... but looking back, it's exciting to see how far I've come.

Sounds like you've done a lot of work on yourself too. :thumbsup
