Hello everyone!

I am new to the bpdrecovery.com forum and wanted to say hello to all of you. A bit about my background: I was diagnosed with BPD at 20 or 21 (can't remember) as an inpatient. I am 22 now. I recently made the choice to leave a relationship that I realized I was using as a "human bandage" for my feelings - unfair for the other person and for myself. This event triggered a bit of backsliding unfortunately (an episode of cutting). On the positive side, I have finally determined this is the time to change my life and begin healing. I am in the process of securing a DBT therapist and skills group and am trying to look forward with courage and hope at the journey ahead, however long or hard it may be. Balancing full-time work, part-time university evening classes, therapy, and trying to re-assemble something like a social life is the struggle for me right now.

The particular feelings that really trouble me are the feelings of being alone (without a relationship/"human bandage"), insecure, sometimes afraid of my feelings (although I am getting better at this), and generally trying to keep the different elements of my life together without just letting things apart like I have in the past in the midst of a crisis.

I commend you all on this board for starting and pursuing your own journeys of healing. You are strong men and women and as a community we will make it through the symptoms that make our lives so painful sometimes.

Dear Avonelk,
A warm welcome to you :)
Yes, as a community we will pull through and we will be overcomers :)
Yeah, it can be quite tough balancing full-time work, part time university studies and therapy. I would caution to look out for times when there is extra pressure either at work or from your academic pursuit; coz our symptoms do have a tendency to worsen when we are stressed out. So being on the lookout is a preventive measure :)
I came onboard this forum only a few months ago, and I would say I have made some progress by learning from what other people have posted and shared, the tools, and doing my own reflection / instrospection. I'm thankful for the existence of this board and this community, especially the support whereby people here actually understand what we mean and what we are going through. It is just so liberating to be understood by ppl :)

Welcome onboard, let's journey together :)
