Hello everyone,

I'm Wolf and I have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Recently, I've come to realize how many of my behaviors have been typical "borderline" behaviors. I am trying to change those and grow. I just read the book "Get Me Out of Here" and really recommend it for people looking for some hope for BPD. I am looking to learn all that I can about starting a new life. I live at a program for people with mental health issues and have been here for a year. I am hoping to go back home in the next six months and I'm trying to get the most out of living here that I can. I feel like I have not really been focusing on recovering from BPD until now. Now I feel ready to really analyze my behaviors and change my life.

I hope to gain a lot of knowledge from this forum and look forward to meeting some members here.

Sincerely,
Wolf

Hi! I read that book too and I really liked it. It made me feel a lot less alone. I could really relate to her struggle with neediness.

Hi LWolf-

:welcome

I really liked "Get me out of Here" as well. I think it sheds a pretty realistic view on the recovery process. A step forward, a couple back, etc, until you find yourself on even ground.

Out of sheer curiousity, what are they offering you in terms of treatment at the program/facility you're in?

Thanks for the welcomes, everyone!

Raeni, as far as treatment goes, there is a lot. We have a few groups every day, Monday through Friday. I have a DBT group twice a week for an hour. I get a one on one session with a DBT specialist once a week. I also see a psychologist twice a week for a half an hour each session and a psychiatrist twice a month. I also have group therapy with my psychologist twice a week. Here are some of the groups we have at my program: Recovery Group, Men's Group, Women's Group, Wellness Group, L.I.F.E Group(which is about helping those with metabolic syndrome), DBT Skills Group, CBT Group, Lunch 101, Illness Management, and Vocational Workshop. There are more but I don't have my schedule with me at the moment.

Granted, groups get cancelled and things but it is overall a good program. Its a little frustrating to try and go home on the weekends. The insurance company asks for a lot of crap and paperwork that isn't totally necessary.

It's an independent living program so I share an apartment with two other guys. I am responsible for my own food shopping, cooking and cleaning. We also go on outings every day (even if its just to Walmart) and have events throughout this summer like the zoo, a few lakes, baseball games, etc. There is staff there every day from 8am to 9pm. On weekends, staff is there from 8am to 1pm, they go home for a bit, and then come back from 4pm to 9pm. A staff member is always available by phone via a crisis pager number that you can call at any hour of any day.

I hope that gives a pretty accurate picture of my program. It's in Pennsylvania and if you need more information, feel free to ask. Thanks. :)

Wow LWolf, you've got a full plate there. That's pretty awesome. That sounds like an excellent program for you to be in, I hope you are taking complete advantage of it. You are pretty lucky to have so much at your fingertips.

If you like memoir-type books, another one I was fond of is "The Buddha and the Borderline" by Kiera Van Gelder, if you haven't read it.

We're happy to have you here. :) Just dive on in where you see fit, looking forward to knowing more about you.
