I'm Keir, a 16 year old guy who's been recently diagnosed with BPD. I didn't know that they could diagnose a teenager with a personality disorder until now. I've never been good at introductions or even basic conversation...

Hi Kier and welcome.

It's true that in the past teenagers weren't diagnosed with personality disorders, but I guess that's changing. Young kids are also being diagnosed with bipolar and a number of other mental illnesses. I guess if you fit the criteria, then it may be true for you. Don't despair, though -- you can overcome this.

I hope our board will be of help to you. Check out our "Tools" (in the box on the left) for some great ways to straighten out your thinking and behavior.

Glad you found us!

Hello Keir,
I guess you are "lucky" for being diagnosed early on in life. BPD develops early on in infancy from what I understand and I felt the symptoms as long as I can remember. Over the years, it became more and more difficult for me to function, especially when it comes to personal relationships w/family, friends, SOs etc. Maybe you or your parents can find a therapist who offers DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) which seems to work quite well with adolescents.
I wish you luck with all my heart since I have a daughter who I DO NOT want to go through what I have been through!

Hello, Keir.

You lucky guy. I was diagnosed with BPD at age 60. Some thoughtful person has just offered you a gift of 44 more years of Healthy Happy Living than I got. Take it.

You can do it. But you must work it all the time, at least for a while.

Good luck and welcome.
