I wrote a little poem about my codependence which I wanted to share. It's not meant to be a great piece of literature, but I thought someone may get something out of this.

Sarah is the one each day
Who gets her out of bed
The one who gives herself a shower
and ensures that she is fed

She takes her to the doctor
When she's feeling ill
She gives herself a blanket
When she feels a chill

She gives herself a manicure
When her nails get too long
And when she's feeling lonely
She sings herself a song

Sarah is the only one
Who cares for her this way
So why does Sarah build her worth
On what other people say?

I love, love, love this poem Sarah! Very insightful......

I've always liked the saying "what other people think of me is none of my buisness". It was/is difficult for me to put into practice, but gets easier with time and repitition. It forces me to rely on my own thoughts and opinions, rather than other peoples. Actually, that saying/view has really helped me find my Authentic Self-- and with that a way out of my co-dependant tendancies.

Wow! Thank you for sharing your poem Sarah. It's a wonderful reminder of how important we are to ourselves.

It's a very good poem Sarah; simple & profound; the best kind. It's inspirational too and it's a good reminder that we're all more capable than we sometimes remember. I will remember that poem next time I'm feeling helpless and defeatist - it'll help remind me of my own ability to take care of myself. Well done.

Thank you for sharing this with us! I was actually in this mindset today, where I was too worried about what other people were thinking. Your poem came at the perfect time for me and helped me regain perspective. And, it is beautifully written.

Oh I am so pleased that people related to this! Thanks for the compliments. I've refined it a bit now and am happier with it, but the essence is the same so I needn't publish it again.

:-)

As a couple of people have now asked, anyone who wants to share my poem is most welcome to. You are also welcome to change the name so it applies to whomever. The ONLY thing I don't want is for someone else to take credit for it. I don't care if no credit is given, just not a lie. :-)

Great poem, Sarah! A good read to start out the morning with.
