I noticed there is much more on the web about borderlines who "act out" than folks like me that "act in"

I read this though and recognised myself instantly

http://www.aapel.org/bdp/BLborderquietUS.html

What about you. Any other "innney's" on here?

Oh my god, this is a fantastic article!! I am a high functioning "acting inwards" BPDer and do not fit into the classic diagnosis of BPD at all. I even questioned that, while i identified with some of the illness, that there were specific traits i did not share, such as "acting Out" or Projecting on to others. Others on this site have spoken of it, but i never understood it. I guess the professionals were right about my diagnoisis, but this is the first time i have ever heard of an inward and outward BPD diagnosis. now i can largely identify with it. I say largely, because I have only self harmed once and that was a dissociative state i was in and the height of my unwellness. I've had no desire before then nor since.

Thank you for sharing fellow Inney.

Glad to be of assistance!
And good to meet another like me.
I'm fairly high functioning too. I say only fairly because recently depression and anxiety have really got in the way of my performance at work. Right now I'm off sick and going to the doctors this afternoon, hopfully to get drugs lol!
I self harm a little, when I get frustrated and angry at myself. The feelings bubble up from nowhere, its the wierdest thing!
I also project to an extent. When I feel negatively about myself I imagine that everyone
Is very hostile towards me. People would not nesacarily know I was bpd from my behaviour towards others though. I actually worked out I was bpd when my flatmate was diagnosed. I noticed that the intensity and changableness of her emotions towards others was very similar to my changing feelings about myself. Then I found out about iward acting bpds and thought "that's me"

In a previous incarnation of BPDR, we had a section regarding "The Four Categories of BPD" in which we explored:
  • High-Functioning, In-Acting
  • High-Functioning, Out-Acting
  • Low-Functioning, Out-Acting
  • Low-Functioning, In-Acting

AJ's articles are always quite good, stirring and thought-provoking. Thank you, Grrl, for sharing.

The best I can offer right now is through the archive from almost four years ago:
http://web.archive.org/web/200708221246 ... page&pid=9

And it's not so much an article as an overall description of the divisions, sorry it's not more. I am working on redesigning the site over the next few months because we don't have nearly the amount of content on the website right now as we used to have and I really want to get that stuff back up there.

I wouldn't expect to see the new version of the site (BPDR v5.0) until Feb/March of next year though.
