Taken directly from Putting the Pieces Together, here are some of the general BPD-oriented homework exercises listed in Chapter 17. These homework exercises are optional (they are NOT required for your participation or continued membership with the BPDR Forums.) The homework need not be posted in public nor shared in any way. The exercises are simply posted as a way to provide some of the recovery-oriented work that may be of assistance in your journey toward healthy, happy living.

  • How do you feel when read or hear the phrase "genuine self"?
  • What do you envision your life will be like when you’ve gotten yourself to the point where you’re comfortable with your genuine self?
  • Having read all the material in this book, how confident are you that recovery is possible?
  • Pick at least one (but up to three) role model that you can look to as you begin re-assembling your genuine self.
  • For a period of two weeks, pay closer attention to the news and current events. Pick an issue or a couple of small issues and try to get a handle on what your stance, position or belief on that subject is. Your first thoughts may require some fine-tuning as you do more research, hear more opinions or events change. That’s okay and be sure to give yourself that flexibility.
