Taken directly from Putting the Pieces Together, here are some of the general BPD-oriented homework exercises listed in Chapter 18. These homework exercises are optional (they are NOT required for your participation or continued membership with the BPDR Forums.) The homework need not be posted in public nor shared in any way. The exercises are simply posted as a way to provide some of the recovery-oriented work that may be of assistance in your journey toward healthy, happy living.

  • Pick three things you want to work on. Write large goals for those three things. Then define some mini-goals that will help you achieve those large goals. Now review them:
[1] Are they positive in nature? Are they effective?
    [2] Are they accountable?
    [3] Are they measurable?
    [4] Are they flexible?
  • Who will be your support system in achieving these goals? How will you broach the subject with these people?
  • Describe your feelings, thoughts, hesitations, and fears about setting forth on the journey to achieving these goals. What coping techniques do you have at your disposal to deal with these challenges?
  • Get yourself a notebook (or some other tool) to measure your progress as you reach for your goals. Set up a system of rewards as you reach important milestones. Fulfill those rewards!
