I have a Dharma Deck that I keep with me at work. At one point, the intention was that since there are 52 cards in the deck, I would pull one card a week and allow that to marinate in my brain for the week.
At some point a while back (wow, I can't even remember how long ago it was) I pulled a card. It was "Success" with the following quote on the back:
Chanakya Pandit wrote:
Avoid wicked company and associate with saintly persons. Acquire virtue both day and night. Always meditate on that which is eternal, forgetting the temporary. In this way you will achieve success.
Obviously I had forgotten all about this practice, idea and the card in particular.
Last week, I was offered (and accepted) a new position with a different business unit in my company. It counts as a promotion because it's a higher grade-level position. The hiring manager actually approached me about the position initially and encouraged me to apply. I spoke with him and his counterpart (not their boss or their HR rep) and was ultimately offered the job.
Today, fighting my fourth day of this brutal migraine, I reached for my Dharma Deck to see what inspiration I would pull. Imagine my surprise to see that Success card staring up at me.
I wonder if it worked. I wonder if I pulled the card before the hiring manager approached me. I wonder if the thought, concept and/or quote marinated in my subconscious all this time, guiding me toward success in this realm.
I thought this was a neat happenstance. I'd like to believe there's some level of truth to the "thoughts are things and what you think about becomes reality." Even if it's just buried in your subconscious!
