Hororing the Hurt

Ache
Pain
He brought me so much pain.
Goodness
The goodness outweighs the pain.
Yet, the pain was real.
The mark it left is real.


This seems to fit here. Because it really is about accepting what's real, what can't be changed, and keeping it in perspective while not belittling it.

That's great, Ellen. You're a pretty good writer! And you're right. You can't deny that the pain left a mark, but you put the pain in the proper perspective.

I want to add, this poem is in part an act of forgiveness. Not forgiveness in the sense of an act towards another. Forgiveness as something within myself. I can't really explain the logic of how writing this poem connects with forgiveness, but it does. I think (okay, here I go doin what I said I couldn't do, but only after going off and doing something else in between) that in order to forgive the hurt, one has to first accept it. Accepting it and putting it in proper perspective (as opposed to ignoring the hurt or overfocusing on the hurt) allows forgiveness.
