Hello all, I'm Tabitha the new newbie. I am excited to see if this form of communication can really help with the healing process.

OK, so I have rewritten this paragraph 20 times. But I never felt the writings seemed quite "perfect" enough so I erased them all. Anything I write I say, "that sounds stupid." I hope I can ease up on myself in the future enough to communicate with you all. Yep... I think I will fit in just fine here. At least I'm hoping so!

Man I'm moody... which leads me to Lamictal. Any good reviews to share? I'm sure there are plenty of discussions on the subject but I'm ready to communicate directly with someone. I've tried anti-depressants twice in my life but couldn't bare the side effects. I'm over my mood swings so thinking about Lamictal.

Hello. I've never tried a mood stabilizer before... Just antidepressants. Side effects were unpleasant. My therapist says PTSD can enhance the side effects for some reason. I do need some relief of some sort so I'm going to get a psychiatrist. But reading some stuff online about the nasty cons has me 2nd guessing my decision. It would be nice to hear some success stories for Lamictal. But if there aren't any then please feel free to talk me out of it!

Thanks for accepting me!

Sorry is Lamictal an antidepressant or mood stabilizer?

I'm on one anti depressant and one mood stabilizer, with no side effects fortunately :) but not lamictal, so I can't really tell you whether lamictal works or not. Sometimes these medications are a mix and match, as in how well it works varies from person to person. Some people are lucky in the sense that their first trial with medication works. For some, they would have to change their medication to a more suitable one.

I would greatly encourage you to see a psychiatrist, since you say you have mood swings.

Tabitha,

Welcome!

I would ask my therapist about any medication questions you have. I really am not understanding what the difference is between a mood stabilizer and an AD. Several people on this board have talked about them, though, so perhaps this a new approach.

Welcome to the board, Tabitha!
(I love the name Tabitha, by the way.)

I've never been on Lamictal, so I'm sorry that I can't give any reviews or information about it.

Hi Tabitha!

Welcome to the forum.

In my experience, mood stabilizers have a large chance of causing weight gain, which can make a person feel much worse about themselves over time. It also depends which is more of a problem for you... depression, or mood swings. Stabilizers are typically used to help people with bipolar manage their mania, so if you're not bipolar, I would suggest trying to find an antidepressant that works for you, even though sometimes it means trying a bunch of the WRONG ones before finding the right one. Of course, your doctor is the best person to ask.

Also, you need not worry about "perfect" paragraphs here. :)
